Ham Sandwich with Cheese, Spinach, and Pickles

  • Start by selecting two slices of your favourite bread. Wholemeal or sourdough are excellent choices for this sandwich.

  • Spread a thin layer of butter or mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice. This not only adds flavour but also helps in preventing the bread from becoming soggy.

  • Layer slices of cooked ham on one slice of bread. For this recipe, using about 50 grams of ham is ideal.

  • Add a slice of cheese on top of the ham. Cheddar or Swiss cheese works well, providing a nice melt and flavour.

  • On top of the cheese, add a generous layer of fresh spinach leaves. Spinach not only adds a nutritional boost but also a fresh, slightly earthy flavour.

  • Add a few slices of pickles on top of the spinach. The acidity and crunch from the pickles create a perfect balance with the rest of the ingredients.

  • Close the sandwich with the other slice of bread, buttered side down.

  • If desired, you can lightly toast the sandwich in a panini press or a skillet to melt the cheese and crisp the bread.

  • Serve immediately, perhaps with a side of crisps or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
